Estimated 25 kg Tile Adhesive

Calculation Assumptions
  • Tile quantity is calculated using the actual dimensions of the selected tile.
  • Tiles required before allowance are rounded up to whole pieces.
  • The recommended quantity applies the selected allowance to the theoretical tile requirement and then rounds upward to whole pieces.
  • Boxes are rounded upward to whole boxes.
  • Pieces per box must be confirmed from the actual product packaging or supplier.
  • The default 7% allowance is intended as a preliminary allowance for cutting, breakage and wastage. Actual requirements can vary with tile layout and site conditions.
  • Tile adhesive is a preliminary material estimate only and is based on approximate coverage for a 25 kg bag.
Important: This calculator is intended for preliminary quantity estimating only. Actual tile and adhesive requirements may vary depending on layout, cuts, substrate condition, installation method, tile backing, adhesive thickness and manufacturer instructions. Confirm quantities with your contractor, installer or material supplier before purchasing.

How to Use the Tile Calculator Philippines

This Tile Calculator Philippines helps estimate the number of tiles and boxes needed for floors, bathroom walls, kitchen walls and other tiled surfaces. It can also provide a preliminary estimate of the number of 25 kg tile adhesive bags required.

To calculate your tile requirements:

  1. Enter the length and width of a floor, or the length and height of a wall.
  2. Deduct doors, windows or other areas that will not receive tiles, if applicable.
  3. Select the tile size or enter custom tile dimensions.
  4. Select an allowance for cuts, breakage and wastage.
  5. Enter the actual number of tiles contained in one box.
  6. Click Calculate Tiles to estimate the required pieces and boxes.

How to Calculate the Number of Tiles You Need

Tile quantity is primarily determined by the area to be tiled and the area covered by one tile.

Gross Area
Length × Width or Height

Net Tile Area
Gross Area − Doors, Windows and Other Openings

Tile Area
Tile Length × Tile Width

Theoretical Number of Tiles
Net Tile Area ÷ Area of One Tile

Because tiles cannot normally be purchased as fractions of a piece, the calculator rounds purchase quantities upward. An additional allowance can then be included for cutting, breakage and wastage.

How Many Tiles Are Needed Per Square Meter?

The number of tiles per square meter depends on the dimensions of the tile. The figures below show the theoretical number of full tiles needed to cover one square meter before considering cuts or wastage.

Tile SizeArea per TileTheoretical Tiles per m²
30 × 30 cm0.090 m²11.11
30 × 60 cm0.180 m²5.56
40 × 40 cm0.160 m²6.25
60 × 60 cm0.360 m²2.78
60 × 120 cm0.720 m²1.39
80 × 80 cm0.640 m²1.56

These figures are mathematical coverage rates rather than recommended purchase quantities. Actual projects require whole tiles and may need additional pieces for cuts, breakage, pattern alignment and site conditions.

How Many 60×60 Tiles Are Needed Per Square Meter?

A 60 × 60 cm tile covers:

0.60 m × 0.60 m = 0.36 m² per tile

1 m² ÷ 0.36 m² = approximately 2.78 tiles per square meter

This does not mean you can purchase 2.78 tiles. The total tiled area should be divided by 0.36 m², after which the required quantity is rounded upward and an appropriate allowance is added.

How Much Extra Tile Should You Allow for Wastage?

Extra tiles are normally needed because some pieces must be cut around walls, corners, columns, doors, fixtures and other obstructions. Tiles may also be damaged during transportation or installation.

The calculator uses 7% as its default preliminary allowance. This is consistent with the extra allowance recommended by a major Philippine home-improvement retailer for cuts, damage, errors and obstacles.

The appropriate allowance still depends on the project. Simple areas with efficient layouts may have relatively little waste, while diagonal layouts, complicated room shapes, numerous corners or patterns that require alignment can require a higher allowance.

Tile Adhesive Calculator

After calculating the tile quantity, the tool can also provide a preliminary tile adhesive estimate. The estimate is based on approximate published coverage for a 25 kg cement-based tile adhesive bag.

Tile Size CategoryTypical Adhesive Thickness BasisApproximate Coverage per 25 kg Bag
30 × 30 cm and smaller3 mm5.0 m²
Up to 60 × 60 cm6 mm2.6 m²
Larger-format tiles above 60 cm10 mm preliminary basis1.6 m²

Adhesive coverage should always be treated as an estimate. Actual consumption can change significantly depending on substrate flatness and condition, tile size, the profile or smoothness of the back of the tile, trowel size, application thickness and installation method. Follow the selected adhesive manufacturer's technical instructions for the actual project.

Example Tile Calculation

Example: 20 m² Floor Using 60×60 cm Tiles

Assume a room measures 5 m × 4 m, with no deductions. The selected tiles measure 60 × 60 cm, the allowance is 7%, and each box contains 4 tiles.

Floor area:
5 m × 4 m = 20 m²

Area of one tile:
0.60 m × 0.60 m = 0.36 m²

Theoretical tile quantity:
20 ÷ 0.36 = 55.56 tiles

Tiles before allowance:
56 pieces

Including 7% allowance:
55.56 × 1.07 = 59.44 → 60 pieces

Boxes:
60 ÷ 4 = 15 boxes

Recommended purchase quantity:
60 tiles or 15 boxes

Using an approximate adhesive coverage of 2.6 m² per 25 kg bag: 20 ÷ 2.6 = 7.69, which rounds upward to a preliminary estimate of 8 bags of tile adhesive.

Tile Calculator Philippines Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate how many tiles I need?

Calculate the net area to be tiled, then divide that area by the area of one tile. Add an appropriate allowance for cuts and wastage and round the final purchase quantity upward to whole tiles.

How many 60×60 tiles do I need per square meter?

One 60 × 60 cm tile covers 0.36 m². Therefore, one square meter requires approximately 2.78 tiles mathematically. For an actual project, calculate the total area first, then round the total requirement upward and include an allowance for cuts and wastage.

Should I buy extra tiles?

Yes. Extra tiles help account for cutting, breakage, obstacles and other installation losses. This calculator uses 7% as its default preliminary allowance, but more complicated layouts may require a higher percentage.

How many tiles are in one box?

There is no universal number of tiles per box. Packaging varies according to tile dimensions, thickness, brand and product. Check the box label or supplier specification and enter the actual pieces per box into the calculator.

Can I use this calculator for bathroom wall tiles?

Yes. Enter the wall length and height, then deduct the area of doors, windows or other surfaces that will not be tiled. For several walls, calculate their combined net area or calculate each wall separately and combine the required quantities.

How much area can a 25 kg bag of tile adhesive cover?

Coverage varies with tile size and installation conditions. As a preliminary reference, published Philippine manufacturer guidance indicates approximately 5.0 m² for tiles up to 30 × 30 cm, around 2.6 m² for tiles up to 60 × 60 cm, and around 1.6 m² for larger-format applications under the corresponding application thickness assumptions.

Actual coverage should always be confirmed against the technical data for the adhesive being used.

Does this tile calculator include grout?

No. Grout is not included in the current calculator because grout consumption depends on factors such as tile dimensions, grout-joint width, joint depth and the grout product being used. A separate grout calculation is more appropriate than applying a single generic rate.

Can I enter a custom tile size?

Yes. Select Custom Size in the calculator and enter the actual tile length and width. This is useful for tile sizes that are not included in the preset options.

Important Estimating Note

This calculator is intended for preliminary material estimating and planning. Actual quantities can vary because of site dimensions, tile layout, cutting pattern, substrate condition, installation method, product specifications and workmanship. Verify final quantities with your contractor, tile installer, designer or material supplier before purchasing.
